Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif stressed on the need for better and effective co-ordination between the National and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities to cope with national calamities. He expressed these views while presiding over a high level meeting on Monday in which Chairman NDMA Major General Asghar Nawaz gave a detailed briefing.
Shahbaz Sharif said that advance and effective measures were needed to deal with natural calamities and minimise the losses. He said working in a professional manner in disaster management was needed. "An effective response mechanism is of vital importance in case of natural disasters. There is a need for capacity-building of concerned institutions. Trained human resource can play an effective role in disaster management," he said.
The CM Punjab said there should be effective co-ordination between the NDMA and PDMA and better results could be achieved through the use of modern technology in disaster management. He constituted a committee and directed that it should review all proposals in consultation with the officials of the NDMA. Provincial Ministers Bilal Yasin, Yawar Zaman, Senior Member Board of Revenue, Secretary Irrigation and DG PDMA also attended the meeting.
