On the instructions of Provincial Irrigation Minister, Yawar Zaman, six high level teams have been constituted by the Irrigation Department to inspect the Flood Bunds, Flood Protection Works and Breaching Sections to check their status of maintenance and readiness to meet the challenges of flood emergencies during the year 2016.
The team constituted under supervision of Afzal Anjum Toor, Deputy General Manager (PIDA), Lahore will conduct inspection of DG Khan Zone. The team headed by Tahir Anjum Iqbal Qureshi, Superintending Engineer, Machinery Circle, Lahore will inspect Faisalabad Zone and submit its report to the Department.
The team headed by Asghar Hameed, Superintending Engineer, and Drainage Circle, Faisalabad has been entrusted to inspect Multan Zone. Similarly, the team of Rana Muhammad Latif, Superintending Engineer Link Circle Lahore will inspect the Lahore Zone. Meanwhile, the Sahiwal Zone has been given to the team headed by Saeed-ul-Hassan Hashmi, Superintending Engineer Nilibar Canal Circle Sahiwal. The team headed by Sh. Muhammad Qasim Saeed, Superintending Engineer, Haveli Canal Circle, Multan will visit and inspect Bahawalpur Zone.
The Irrigation Department has also deputed Shabbir Ahmed Saqib, Director Structures, Safety Evaluation Cell to co-ordinate with Pre-Flood inspection teams of Upper / Central Punjab during their visits and Muhammad Latif, Director Embankments, Safety Evaluation Cell shall coordinate with Pre-Flood Inspection teams of Southern / Lower Punjab during their visits.
The Irrigation Department shall provide necessary guidance and support to the Line Departments for better flood management and policy planning.
