Customs authorities and Motorway Police Islamabad Monday decided to carry out joint operations to curb the menace of smuggling from the Motorways by setting up contact points on M1 and M2 range of motorways. It is reliably learnt that a senior level meeting was held between the customs and Motorway Police at the Motorway Police office Islamabad. Collector of Customs along with his team met DIG Motorway Police Islamabad and his sector Commander.
The modus operandi of smugglers using motorway was discussed and various measures and steps were agreed upon including exchange of contact points between the two agencies for prompt and immediate action by completely eliminating this menace on M1 and M2 range.
This is for the first time that such a major action has been taken by customs for controlling smuggling through motorways. The latest initiative of anti-smuggling is expected to control smuggling of different items through motorways. A detailed plan was discussed and agreed upon for effective, durable and close co-ordination action between the relevant Government agencies so as to completely eradicate chances of Smuggling through Motorways.
