Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, A D Khawaja on Tuesday took serious notice of crippling traffic jams in the city and issued special directives to Karachi Traffic Police to take strict measures ensuring better traffic system particularly during peak hours.
The IGP ordered DIG Traffic Karachi Dr Amir Ahmed Shaikh that in case of traffic jams, direct alternate routes for vehicular traffic on urgent basis as well as ensure excessive deployment of traffic cops on busy roads so that smooth flow of traffic could be ensured.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, IGP also asked the DIG to conduct a traffic survey on city's all roads in collaboration with other relevant departments of the government so that traffic congestion issue during the school and office timings could be resolved in the light of survey report.
IGP said that all traffic signals' timing should be set as per the survey report when traffic congestion issue increases particularly during peak hours and increase deployment of traffic cops at traffic signals so that they can regulate traffic during loadshedding or in case of any fault. IGP ordered ban on all heavy loading and speedy vehicular traffic on city's main roads during peak hours. He made it obligatory on all traffic section officers to implement the traffic law and take action against the violators of traffic law.
