Lawyers on Tuesday demanded immediate resignations of the prime minister and the Punjab chief minister following their outcry over Sunday's bombing that left a score of people dead and many others injured. The lawyers' rally began from the Supreme Court Bar Association and passing through the General Post Office and ending at the Punjab Assembly. Hundreds of protesting lawyers, chanting anti-government and anti-terror slogans, also called for enforcing the National Action Plan.
In his speech, Supreme Court Bar Association President Syed Barrister Ali Zafar said, "The entire lawyers' community was staging protests against the government for its failure to stop terrorism and they would fight with their pen against terrorism". He also called for resignations of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, "If they cannot protect citizens from the menace of terrorism".
Supreme Court Bar Association Secretary Asad Manzoor Butt said Gulshan-i-Iqbal Park's incident was the failure of security officials and urged police to arrest the real culprits instead of catching innocent people. Lahore High Court Bar President Rana Zia Abdur Rehman said the Sunday incident was a cowardly attack and blamed the failure of the security agencies and the governments.
