An important meeting of a parliamentary panel to discuss the privatisation of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will be held here to address the reservations of the opposition before presenting it before a joint sitting of parliament for passage on April 11. Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Senator Saeed Ghani said the government has agreed that it will not hand-over the management of PIA, adding the management will remain with the government if 26 percent shares of airline are privatised.
"We want the government to ensure that no employee will be laid off, and those who have been arrested after imposition of the Essential Services Maintenance Act by the government would be released," he added. He said a meeting of the parliamentary committee to discuss the privatisation of PIA will be held in parliament house, in which the government will brief the committee about its future plan as it had deferred the bill on March 28 under pressure by the opposition.
