Expressing dismay over lackluster performance of the top anti-graft body on Wednesday the Supreme Court directed its chairman to ask his officers to come out of their cozy offices to serve the nation. A three-member bench of Justice Gulzar Ahmad resumed the hearing of a matter relating to a delayed inquiry of sacked Chairman of the Balochistan Public Service Commission (BPSC) Ashraf Magsi over charges of irregularities and corruption.
Four years ago, after growing complaints against Magsi, the NAB had initiated an inquiry and confiscated all the examination records of the last two years as part of an investigation into irregularities in appointments. According to reports, the accountability court had initiated an inquiry against the recruitment of officers in violation of merit as Magsi's son and daughter were also given posts in education department against grade 17 posts.
Appearing before the bench in pursuance of court's earlier directives, Chairman NAB Qamar Zaman Chaudhry said that currently the Bureau was holding 625 inquiries and 325 investigation in various cases. Responding to the court's query, Zaman submitted that the NAB has issued notices to accused Ashraf Magsi but he failed to turn up before the Bureau's committee. Seeking a comprehensive report from the Chairman NAB about reasons behind delayed inquiries and investigations the bench adjourned the hearing of the matter for two weeks.
