Rejecting formation of inquiry commission to probe into offshore companies owned by children of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday said that in principle, the premier should quit like Icelander prime minister. Speaking at a press conference, PTI Central Information Secretary Naeemul Haq said that after it was proved that the children of Prime Minister had offshore companies, there was no point PM Sharif should stay any longer.
"In principle, he (Sharif) should step down like his Icelander counterpart who morally step down after the name of his wife was surfaced in the list of offshore companies, so why Nawaz Sharif is still there," he added. The PTI spokesman also announced that he would hold a press conference at Press Information Department (PID) conference hall, saying it was a government property and everybody can hold a press conference.
"I will respond to them straight from the PID tomorrow (Thursday) as it is not anyone's forefather's property. The people of Pakistan are the custodians of these government buildings and if the government can use them for political purposes, why can we hold a press conference from there," he added.
Haq hit hard at the government ministers, declaring them as the courtiers of Sharifs, for dragging in PTI chairman Imran Khan. The government also claims that Imran had also made investment in an offshore company before the construction of Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital in Lahore.
"We completely reject the inquiry commission under a retired judge," he said, adding that was nothing but a mere eyewash to befool the nation. "The prime minister is trying to take refuge behind an inquiry commission which shows he is in disarray," he added. He expressed annoyance over the government attitude for dragging in Imran Khan, saying it was not Imran Khan, as it as the report of international consortium of investigative journalists (ICIJ) exposed those secretly making in offshore companies to conceal their wealth.
