Swat clinched overall trophy of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Malakand Region Inter-District Men Games concluded at Makan Bagh, Mingora Swat Saturday. Director Operation and Training Tariq Mehmood was the chief guest on this occasion. Organizing Secretary Syed Saqlain Shah, members Zakir Ullah, Amjad Khan, Secretary District Swat Hockey Association Malik Wadan, officials, players and large numbers of spectators were also present.
The players of District Swat claimed first positions in 12 different events out of total 15 disciplines by securing 134 points and won the overall trophy, followed by Dir Lower with 71 points and Shangla remained at third with 36 points. In most of the events the players of Swat District dominated as in the hockey final Swat defeated Dir Lower by 5-4 on a penalty shootout battle before both playing a 1-1 draw in the stipulated 70-minute time. Dir Lower took the lead in the 8th minute through field attempt when Siraj netted a fine goal while for Swat Imran tied the tally 1-1 after scoring a beautiful goal on the 3rd penalty corner. Dir Lower got 7 penalty corners and none of them could be productive while Swat took four penalty corners and utilized one while missed three due to poor drilling. In the cricket Swat defeated Lower Dir by 35 runs. Dir Lower won the toss and elected to field first by inviting Swat to bat first. Swat while batting first scored 121 runs in the 20 overs match and in reply Dir Lower bundled out for 86 runs, thus Swat won the final.
In the Basketball final match Dir Upper defeated Swat by 45-33 points, Shahjehan, Ajmal and Tuseef played well for Dir Upper by contributing most batskets while for Swat Ibrar, Younis and Ali played well.
In the Volleyball final Dir Lower outclassed District Shangla by 3-0, the score was 25-19, 25-17 and 25-12 in a one-sided affairs. In the boxing event Swat secured 140 points by winning the overall trophy, followed by Dir Lower with 70 points and Dir Upper took third position with 40 points. In the football final District Chitral overpowered strong Swat team in a thrilling final witnessed by capacity crowd present on this occasion. Chitral and Swat players tried their hard to get any lead but they were failed and thus to decide the fate of the final match both the teams were awarded five each penalty kicks on which Chitral scored on all five occasions while Swat scored on only four occasions, missing one. Thus Chitral won the match by 5-4.
Overall Swat bagged 12 gold medals by taking first positions in 12 discipline, securing 134 points, followed by Dir Lower with one gold, and eight silvers and one bronze by registering 71 points and District Shangla remained at third with one gold and three silver medals and one bronze medal by recording 36 points. Dir Upper with one gold medal and two bronze medals remained at fourth while District Chitral got fifth position with two silver medals by securing 14 points only. More than 430 players from Dir Upper, Dir Lower, Shangla, Chitral and Swat took part in the three-day Games organized under the supervision of the Directorate General of Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
