Swat clinched the trophy of the Athletic Meet after securing two gold, three silver and two bronze medals in the ongoing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Under-23 Malakand Region Inter-District Women Games being played at different venues Wednesday.
Director General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Miss Rashida Ghaznavi was the chief guest on this occasion and besides awarding athletic trophies and medals she also distributed various other games trophies as well. Organising Secretary and District Sports Officer Syed Saqlain Shah, members Hamid Khan, Syed Jaffar Shah, officials, players and spectators were also present.
District Swat with two gold medal in shot put and discus throw and three silver medals in Javelin throw, 100m, and shot put and three bronze medals secured 50 points, followed by District Shangla with two gold medal in 100m and shot put and one silver medal in discus throw secured 27 points while Dir Upper got third position with one silver medal and a bronze medal in Javelin throw recorded 13 points.
Shahana of Shangla was declared as best athlete as she won 100m and shot put gold medals and silver medal in Javelin throw. She bagged 27 points and also got the honour of becoming the fastest athlete of the Meet. In the cricket event Shangla first defeated Dir Upper by 13 runs in their first match. Shangla skipper Tufeeq won the toss and elected to bat first by setting up 113 runs in the allotted 20 overs match. For Shangla Hira smashed a cracking knock of 44 runs including five boundaries and one six, Farhana (33), Pakhunda (31) were the key contributors. For Swat Munaza, Rubina and Bushra took two wickets each.
In reply, Dir Upper bowled out for 100 runs with Hira took four wickets, Tauheed and Khatijah took two wickets each. After defeating Dir Upper Shangla overpowered Swat by seven wickets in the final. Swat batting first scored 86 runs. Sumaya (31), Sawaira (21) and Lubna (11) were the key contributors. For Shangla, Hira, Pakhunda and Kashmala took three wickets each.
In reply, Shangla chased the target for the loss of three wickets with a stunning batting from Hira and Tuheed as both added a good 52 runs partnership with Hira struck 32 runs and Tuheed scored not out 20 runs. Madina scored 19 runs. For Swat Irum and Tahira took one wicket each. Thus Shangla won the match by seven wickets. In the Martial Art Swat recorded clean sweep victories in Judo, Taekwondo and Wushu while Shangla took runner-up trophies in all three events. The games will conclude on Thursday.
