The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has removed asset details of parliamentarians from its website following public criticism over offshore wealth of political leaders as revealed in the Panama Papers. Sources said the commission was facing intense pressure for removal of asset details of leaders. The ECP has also been ordered not to upload such details on website in future.
In February 2016, parliament sought from the ECP permission to avoid placing on its official website the asset and wealth declarations of MPs but the commission declined to accept this request. Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms had made this request to the ECP, apparently for security reasons and to protect the privacy of the members of parliament.
