The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) MNA and TV host Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain’s apology in the contempt of court case. The Supreme Court has ordered to indict Liaquat on September 27.

According to local media reports, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar in his remarks said that the apology will be considered once the statements were recorded.

The Supreme Court had on August 10 issued a show cause notice to Aamir Liaquat Hussain for violating court orders to use derogatory remarks against people including media groups.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan and comprising Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Umar Ata Bandial announced the verdict over a petition filed by a private channel.

In May 2007, Independent Media group – the parent company of Jang and Geo groups – Mir Shakilur Rehman, Najam Sethi and Shahzeb Khanzada filed petitions against Hussain. The petitioners accused Hussain of leveling false and baseless allegations on citizens and politicians in his programme on Bol TV. He was also accused of using foul language during his TV shows.
