Begum Kulsoom Nawaz passes away in London

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's wife, Begum Kulsoom, passed away on Tuesday, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz president Shehbaz Sharif confirmed.

Kulsoom had developed a lung problem again and doctors placed her back on a ventilator before she passed away.

The former premier’s wife, who was undergoing cancer treatment at the clinic in London, was taken off the ventilator last month after her condition improved a bit.

Sources at the clinic said she had developed a lungs problem again. “She had been responding well without the ventilator until last night,” the sources said, local media reported.

Leaders across Pakistan has been sending the condolence message to the Sharif family. Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed great sorrow at her demise. Former President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP's chief Bilawal Bhutto has also send condolence to the PML-N supporters.

As per the latest reports, the mortal remains of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz will arrive Pakistan on Saturday. Shahbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz will reportedly leave for London to make necessary arrangements to bring the remains back to the home country.

The three-time former first lady was diagnosed with early-stage lymphoma in August last year and had been in London since, where she underwent multiple surgeries and at least five chemotherapy sessions.

Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz have been informed about the death of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, both are currently serving their sentences in Adiala jail.
