Rangers detain Khalid Arain, another for 90 days

Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) was granted 90-day preventive detention for questioning of Khalid Arain and Syed Ghufran Mujtaba linked to private TV channels and cable operation for 90 days. Khalid Arain and Ghufran Mujtaba were produced before the administrative judge of the ATC by the Rangers. Rangers counsel informed the court that they had credible information about suspects' involvement in target killing, extortion, kidnapping, and offences that came within the jurisdiction of Anti-Terrorism Act.
According to the Rangers' law officer, the suspects confessed their involvement in the offences as they contended that it was their compulsion and the situation of Karachi forced them to facilitate terrorists. The court directed the provincial authorities to form a joint investigation team within 15 days for interrogating the suspect. The Rangers will keep the suspects for the period of 90 days according to legal provision 11 EEEEE (1) of Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997. The production of the suspects along with other documents was made in compliance of 11 EEEEE (3) of ATA for the information and record of the court.
