Number of 3G/4G users reached 27.866 million by March: PTA

The number of 3G/4G users reached at 27.866 million by March 2016 as compared to 26.193 million in February 2016, showing a reasonable growth in modern mobile broadband services with each passing month. Mobile phone users in Pakistan reached at 131.412 million at the end of March 2016, after five mobile phone companies added a combined user base of 1.56 million customers during the reported month, as per data released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), here on Wednesday.
Mobilink leads the charts with 38.117 million customers while Telenor is closing in the gap with 36.784 million subscribers. However, after planned merger of Mobilink and Warid, Mobilink will be able to widen the lead with more than 49 million post-merger customers.
Zong has 24.669 million customers at the end of March 2016 while Ufone stood with 20.82 million customers till the time. Warid has a total of 11.02 million customers.
The number of 4G (Zong) users jumped from 481,730 subscribers in February 2016 to 535,936 subscribers in March 2016. According to PTA, the number of Zong, Mobilink, Ufone and Telenor reached 5,681,113, 8,494,389, 5,180,643 and 7,690,529 3G users respectively by March 2016. Warid LTE subscribers reached 283,761 during this period. Mobile teledensity increased from 67.64 percent to 68.51 percent and Broadband subscribers increased from 29,323,215 to 30,996,295 during the period under review.
