The Karachi Port handled 156,935 tonnes of cargo comprising 137,198 tonnes of import cargo and 19,737 tonnes of export cargo including 7,359 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 137,198 tonnes comprised of 71,137 tonnes of containerised cargo; 4,232 tonnes of bulk cargo; 28,838 tonnes of total bulk cargo: 15,301 tonnes of coal; 6,135 tonnes of fertiliser; 4,677 tonnes of palm bulk expeller; 2,725 tonnes of scrap and 32,991 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 19,737 tonnes comprised of 17,717 tonnes of containerised cargo; 520 tonnes of bulk cargo and 1,500 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 7,359 containers comprising of 3,969 containers import and 3,390 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 2,123 of 20's and 896 of 40's loaded while 22 of 20's and 16 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 469 of 20's and 238 of 40's loaded containers while 751 of 20's and 847 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were three ships namely Pacific Winter, Han Xin and Agata M carrying general cargo sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were four vessels viz. A Idefix, Oriental Nadeshiko, Han Xin and Le Li carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
There were five ships namely A Idefix, Sima Giselle, MOL Dedication, Torm Lorie and N Mars carrying containers and oil tankers respectively sailed out to sea on Friday while four ships namely Wan Hai-511, Steel Vision, Le Li and Ping An Song carrying containers, steel and general cargo respectively are expected to sail on Saturday. There were seven vessels viz. UAFL Zanzibar, Najran, APL Agate, Malhari, Nave Rigel, Zealand Rotterdam and Jin Gang carrying containers, chemical mogas, coal and steel respectively due to arrive on Friday while four vessels viz. KMTC Mumbai, OEL Dubai, Bunga Lucerne and Han Ren carrying containers, chemical and general cargo respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.
