Four patients die amid absence of doctors

24 Apr, 2016

Young Doctors Association's (YDA) protest has claimed four lives in Sargodha District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) as emergency and outpatient department (OPD) were shut on Saturday. The association protested against colleague's dismissal and attempted to shut the services at hospital. Medics on duty resisted against association's rowdy behaviour. Clash was intensified when protesters manhandled the senior doctors.
Stampede and fracas landed the medics out of the hospital leaving patients unattended. At least four patients, under treatment in emergency ward died due to lack of in-time treatment. Heavy contingent of police reached the hospital and took several persons in custody.
Hospital services were resumed once Assistant Commissioner paid a visit to the troubled site. Some doctors hauled away hospital's record and fled the scene. Hospital's administration has sought registration of a case against the culprits. Patients who have travelled from far flung areas to get their family members checked at the hospital are facing issues due to the hooliganism.
