A decision on the federal government request to form an inquiry commission to investigate the allegations of money laundering and tax evasion against over 200 prominent political families as well as businesses, whose offshore accounts were revealed in the Panama leaks, is expected once the Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali returns from Turkey on May 01. Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali has flown to Turkey to participate in the annual ceremony of the Turkish Constitutional Court and is expected to return on May 1.
Meanwhile, Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa administrated oath to Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday as the acting Chief Justice of Pakistan. Talking to Supreme Court reporters after the oath-taking ceremony, acting Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar was a bit cautious in making any comments on the Panama leaks. He said the government's letter has been addressed to the permanent Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali who will decide about the formation of a commission. The apex court judge, Justice Dost Muhammad Khan, said that the government has widened the scope of investigation through its ToRs, saying it is the entire nation's demand to form a commission.
