A three-year-old child died due to outbreak of measles in Shudani, far-flung and hilly area of tehsil Jamrud in Khyber Agency. Local tribesmen said on Monday that dozens of children have suffered by the fatal disease and were brought to Jamrud hospital for medical treatment as no health centre is available in the remote area. Sajid, a resident of Shudani said Ijaz s/o Akhtar Mohammad, died of measles. He added that eight of his relatives' children had suffered from measles and were getting treatment in nearest health centres.
He further said that no vaccine campaign did not initiate in the area to keep safe children from the disease. Surgeon Dr Niaz told that on the complaint of the locals, mobile teams had been dispatched to the area that vaccinated more than 161 children.
