Political stability and execution of CPEC projects

02 May, 2016

This is apropos a Business Recorder news item "No threat of political instability, China told" carried by the newspaper on Friday. According to it, Planning Minister Prof Ahsan Iqbal has told Chinese that Pakistan is among the eight fast growing economies of the world due to structural reforms introduced by the present government.
Addressing China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Investment Conference, held in Beijing, he said that Pakistani nation is united on agenda of economic development. He also said that there is no threat of political instability in Pakistan. No doubt, the minister has taken a highly positive approach to the mega development project, the CPEC. Unfortunately, however, the policies of the incumbent government, particularly its response to the Panama Leaks scandal, pose a threat to the country's political stability. Similarly, the opposition parties, too, seem to be oblivious of the criticality of the political stability in relation to smooth execution of the CPEC projects.
