The Islamabad Police on Thursday obtained arrest warrants for former Senate Chairman Nayyar Hussain Bukhari and his son for thrashing a policeman on May 4 at district courts. A senior official of the police said that civil judge Jawad Hussain Adil issued arrest warrants for Bukhari and his son Jarrar Bukhari on the request of Margalla police.
"The court issued arrest warrants for Bukhari and his son for slapping a head constable of special branch Muhammad Riaz dressed in civilian clothes and police would soon arrest the accused", he said. Former Senate Chairman had claimed after the incident that none of his accomplices thrashed the policeman however; CCTV footage of the incident disproved the claim. The CCTV footage showed Bukhari's son thrashing the police constable who tried to check Nayyar Bukhari, the CCTV footage of the incident revealed.
Later, the policeman thrashed by Bukhari's son recorded a supplementary statement with the police and the name of Bukhari son Jarar Bukhari was included in the FIR. Islamabad District Bar Association also went on strike in solidarity with Bukhari, who is a lawyer by profession and an ex-president of the association too.
Margalla Police Station on Wednesday last registered an FIR against Bukhari and his aide under Sections 353/186, 506/34 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on the complaint of Muhammad Riaz, who was deployed at the entry point along with other police personnel. According to the FIR, Riaz along with other cop was engaged in body search of the people coming to the district court at 9:30am on Wednesday when two persons later identified as Nayyar Hussain Bukhari and his son tried to enter without body search. When they were stopped by policeman for snap checking, one of them thrashed Riaz. According to the complainant, Bukhari used humiliating language against him saying, "You are not allowed to search me, do you not know who I am? I will see both, you and your SSP".
