Pakistan's largest three-day book fair organized by Punjab University administration concluded here on Saturday at New Campus. According to organizers, over one hundred thousand books were sold during the first two days. On the last day, Minister Education Punjab Rana Mashood Ahmad Khan, MNA Pervaiz Malik, MPAs Waheed Alam, Khawaja Imran Nazir, former Education Minister Mian Imran Masood, senior journalists including Sohail Warraich, Bushra Rehman, analysts former Justice Nazir Ghazi, Saeed Aasi, Afzal Rehan, writers, families, students and other prominent figures of society also visited the book fair.
Thousands of people from all walks of life, especially a large number of families, thronged PU book fair and purchased books of their interest from bookstalls. During the last hours, the book sellers started to provide more than 50 percent discount on books because of which the sale of books gained an extra-ordinary momentum. A large number of children and special persons also participated in the book fair.
Talking to media, Rana Mashood said that it was appreciable that around one hundred thousand books had been sold in the first two days of the fair which reflected that if books were provided on discounted rates, reading habits could be promoted in society. He congratulated PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran on organizing such a successful event.
Renowned journalist Sohail Warraich said that book was life and it was necessary to read books to understand life. He said that although book culture is not the same which was before internet but still popular books were sold in thousands. He said that people wanted to buy books on discounted price.
Talking to media, senior politicians including Pervaiz Malik, Waheed Alam and Khawaja Imran Nazir said that they were very happy to see a huge number of young students and people which proved that people still loved books. They said that the nations who made books friend always progressed. The participants also lauded security and sanitation arrangements. They congratulated Dr Mujahid Kamran on successfully organizing book fair.
