No talks on Panama leaks: government CoAS expresses concern over situation?

11 May, 2016

Chief of the Army Staff (CoAS) General Raheel Sharif called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday and expressed his concern over prevailing political situation in the country in the wake of the Panama Leaks. Sources said that General Raheel Sharif told the prime minister that the Panama Leaks could have a negative impact on economic activities and the overall security situation in the country. "The matter should be resolved swiftly in a positive manner," he reportedly stressed. Sources further said that Prime Minister Sharif and army chief agreed on accountability of corrupt elements and eradication of corruption.
Minister of State for Privatisation Mohammad Zubair Khan, talking to media persons in Islamabad, however, denied reports that the Panama Leaks issue was taken up by the army chief. "It was a routine meeting between the head of government and the army chief," he said, urging media to refrain from making speculations. "Neither the army chief talked about the Panama papers nor did he express any concern in this regard," added Zubair.
