Privatisation of Karachi Electric: notices to AGP, others issued

The top court on Wednesday issued notices to Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP), Secretary Ministry of Water and Power and others in response to plea of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) urging the court to declare the privatisation of Karachi Electric null and void .
Senior lawyer Rashid A Rizvi had invoked the apex court jurisdiction under Article 184 of the Constitution in the matter through advocate on record Siddique Baloch making Federation through Secretary Ministry of Water and Power and others as respondents. Pleading before a three-member bench led by the Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali the JI counsel Rashid A Rizvi raised questions over privatisation of the Karachi Electric which he claimed to fail to invest the pledged amount of US $360 million. However, after a brief hearing of the matter, the court accepted the plea of Rizvi and issued notices to the AGP and other parties of the case for second week of June.
