A 4.5 magnitude earthquake jolted Swat and surrounding areas on Thursday. According to meteorological department, depth of the earthquake was 90 kilometers with the epicentre determined at Pak-Afghan-Tajikistan border area. The tremors created panic in the people but no loss of life and property has yet been reported as it was a mild earthquake. People left from their houses and workplaces and headed out for open spaces fearing a strong earthquake.
Pakistan is located in one of the most earthquake prone areas with high vulnerability to earthquakes. Geographically, the country lies in the collision zone of the India tectonic plate to the south and the Eurasian plate to the north.
