Where smartphone prices these days are touching skies, Nokia released new variant of its Nokia 6 few months ago, a mid-range Nokia 6.1, also known as Nokia 6 (2018).

With the 2017 Nokia 6 selling over 10 million devices, owners HMD Global decided to go forth with a new follow-up version of the phone dubbed as Nokia 6.1 with model number TA-1043, which was announced earlier this year in January before being officially released in April 2018.

The Nokia 6 (2018) offers reasonable features when compared to phones in a similar price range.

Specifications

As compared to last year’s Nokia 6 with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chip, the new Nokia 6.1 comes in with a more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chip offering better performance. Along with the Bluetooth upgradation from 4.1 to 5.0, the new Nokia 6.1 also features latest Android 8.1 Oreo operating system.

The phone features a 16MP rear camera with panorama, face detection, 4K video capture, HDR, dual-camera picture mode and also the ability to capture picture-in-picture, while the front 8MP selfie camera features bokeh effect along with video recording ability.

Moreover, Nokia offers two versions of the phone, one with 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, and the other one with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, both of which feature a microSD card slot for expandable storage of up to 256GB. With an impressive 3,000mAh battery life, the phone also offers fast-charging.

Apart from these, other specs include Dual-SIM ability, Wi-Fi and USB connectivity, NFC, 4G LTE connection, and FM Radio.

Design

Ensuring a good grip, the phone has a rectangular design with curved corners, making it a bit easier to hold on to. Having a glass front, the phone has an aluminum body with a ‘Nokia’ logo embossed at the back, just below the rear fingerprint sensor.

Giving a variety of color options to choose from, phone comes in three color combinations; blue and gold, white and iron, and black and copper.

User experience

Drawing to an end, Nokia 6.1 is a fair smartphone with a modish design, latest operating system, fair camera, and a reasonable amount of battery life. However, the phone lacks one major quality; not being water-resistant, which I believe is a must have considering the fact that majority of the competitive phones are now water-resistant.

The 5.5-inch display of the phone gives off bright images and a great visual experience. The user interface runs fast preventing the user from experiencing any lag. The phone’s storage also allows the user to store a fair amount of data without the need for additional storage.

The idea of combining two colors makes the phone stand out. Also, the rear fingerprint-sensor frees up the space on the front, also contributing to the chic look of the phone and offering an easy and quick way to unlock the phone. The Corning Gorilla Glass protection is also an indication that the display will be protected from accidental drops and bumps.

Overall, Nokia 6.1 can be rated as an average smartphone and probably an option to consider for someone seeking a smartphone fitting the specified price range.
