Medical and Dental Teaching Posts: CM approves amendments in Service Rules

Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has given approval for the amendments in the Service Rules (Medical and Dental Teaching Posts) 1979, according to which Associate Professor having 3 years of teaching experience will be eligible for the promotion as Professor while Assistant Professor having teaching experience of 4 years will be eligible for promotion as Associate. Earlier, five years teaching experience was mandatory for Associate professor and 7 years experience was required to Assistant Professor to become eligible for the promotion.
These amendments in the service rules 1979 was possible due to the personal efforts of Secretary Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Punjab Najam Ahmad Shah who took personal pain to bring these amendments to provide better service opportunities to the medical teachers.
In this connection, Najam Ahmad Shah said that government is taking solid steps for the promotion of medical education and improvement in healthcare Delivery System for which provision of better service opportunities to the medical professionals is essential. He said that Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif wants development of health sector to provide best healthcare facilities to the poor patients. Secretary SH&ME further said that after amendments in the service rules, Associate professors will not wait for their promotion for five years, similarly, Assistant Professors will not wait for seven years for promotion but they will be eligible for the next promotion after 3 and 4 years respectably. This is an unprecedented fast track promotion service structure which is not available in other services, Najam Shah added.
