UET anti-power theft project lauded

A team of University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar, led by Dr Gul Muhammad Khan, Director Centre for Intelligent Systems and Network Research (CSNIR) participated in World Telecom Communication and Information Society Day 2016 held in Islamabad. During the one-day activity, UET Peshawar's team had showcased a number of projects out of which the project to control the electricity theft was highly appreciated.
Federal Minister for Finance Senator Ishaq Dar during his visit at the stall of UET Peshawar appreciated the project which was designed at CSNIR and is funded by Information and Communication Technologies Research and Development (ICTR&D). On the occasion Senator Ishaq Dar directed CEO ICTR&D Dr Ismail Shah to hold meeting with NEPRA and look into nation-wide installation of the UET project in order to control power theft.
Dr Gul Muhammad while briefing the federal minister on the project informed that project can be used for design and implementation of prototype of secure billing with real time detection of power theft. If implemented, there will be centralised metering similar to telephone billing system, he mentioned. It is worth mentioning here that a part of the project is already implemented by Military Engineering Service (MES) in different cities of the country and the project has already yield fruitful results by considerably decreasing the line losses of MES.
