Twin IED blasts kill policeman

A policeman was killed and 19 others sustained injuries on Wednesday in twin roadside bomb blasts in Peshawar's Mathra area. According to details, the first bomb planted on a roadside exploded when a police petrol vehicle passed in Aslam Dheri neighbourhood of the city. According to police, unidentified men had placed improvised explosive device (IED) near Professor Dr Akbar's residence,
Police cordoned off the area after the attack however no arrest has been made yet. It is pertinent to mention here that last day of three-day anti-polio campaign is underway in Peshawar and its suburbs. Police and Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) reached the scene immediately. The second bomb went off some 20 minutes later, when BDU was inspecting the area as a result of which eight people including a police personnel and Edhi worker got wounded. One of the policemen succumbed to injuries on way to hospital. Rescue 1122 officials claimed to have shifted six injured to the hospital. A DSNG van of a private TV channel, and Rescue 1122's vehicle were also damaged in the blasts.
