Cell phones, contraband medicine seized at Jinnah Airport

Model Customs Collectorate, Preventive on Thursday claimed to have seized huge quantity of cell phones and contraband medicine worth Rs 23.26 million at Jinnah International Airport (JIAP). This was stated by Syed Asad Raza Rizvi Additional Collector Customs along with Ali Raza Turabi Deputy Collector JIAP, Karachi during press conference held at AFU here on Thursday.
He said that staff of Drug Enforcement Cell on a tip off intercepted six packages arrived from Lahore under PIA's AWB no 214-0793-6160 consignee. The staff during examination of these packages recovered 900 Samsung Galaxy J110F mobile phones worth Rs. 18.90 million. The documents supplied by the importer and clearing agents were verified through clearing collectorate, AFU Lahore but the description of the same while matching with the goods detained by the customs were found different.
Therefore, the goods were seized after completion of all legal formalities and a prosecution case has been registered against the importer and clearing agents and other to be identified during the investigation. In another case, the customs staff intercepted three more packages, which had arrived from Quetta but nobody came forward to claim the ownership of the goods.
