Cotton farmers are told to rid their fields of weeds to boost the per acre yield. In an advisory released on Tuesday, a Punjab Agriculture Department spokesman advised the farmers to clean up their fields before flowering of their cotton crops and ensure all sorts of weeds are removed during the initial six to nine weeks of crops.
"They should survey their fields at the start and the end of every crop to get knowledge of varieties and weeds present in their fields. It will help them effectively eradicate these weeds," he said. The spokesman also stressed on devising such a line of action to stop increase of weeds from the economic threshold. "The ruthless use of chemicals against weeds results in enhanced resistance in them. Sprays should be conducted at the right time and in need only and every year a different weedicide should be used," he added.
