25 May, 2016

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has decided to contact Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to establish new government hospitals in federal capital to ensure public health facilities for all. The meeting of PAC was held on Tuesday to review the audit report of Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD). Secretary CADD Hassan Iqbal said that a summary has been moved to the Prime Minister for the permission of establishment of three new hospitals in Islamabad.
Chairman Committee Syed Khursheed Shah said that the government's annual spending on health sector was not exceeded to 0.8 percent of GDP. He directed the Secretary CADD to discourage purchase of medicines through open tenders. He was of the view that open tenders provide local manufacturing companies an opportunity to supply sub standard medicines to the hospitals at lower rates. He said in future only pre-qualified pharmaceutical companies should be allowed to participate in the bid. He further directed management of PIMS hospital to remove the IT tower from premises of hospital which creates health hazards.
