Heroin worth Rs 140 million seized

Model Collectorate of Customs, Preventive on Wednesday claimed to have recovered biggest ever quantity of heroin (27 kilogram) worth Rs 140 million from one of the aircraft of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). This was disclosed by Zahid Khokar, Chief Collector (Enforcement), South along with Tariq Huda Collector Preventive at a press conference held at Air Freight Unit (AFU) here.
He said that this was the biggest ever recovery of heroin from an aircraft and added that possibilities of the involvement of ground airport staff and airline crew could not be ruled out hence the Customs department is going to approach Islamabad and Lahore airports to get CCTV footages.
According to details, a team of customs staff posted at International arrival of Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) on a tip-off searched PIA aircraft bearing Registration AP-BGK 777 on May 25, 2016.
The aircraft was parked at Bay-2 inside Isphani hanger located at old terminal.
The search was conducted in the presence of PIA Engineering and Security staff, which led the recovery of nine cotton bags, containing around 27-kilogram of white heroin from the rear portion of the aircraft L-4 region located left to the kitchen. The approximate international market value of the seized heroin is Rs 140 million.
