The accountability court (AC) has formally announced indictment of Chunno Mamoo among 21 others on charges of illegal occupation of public and private land and sale of the illegally grabbed land as residential and commercial plots. However, the accused have rejected the allegations while the main accused Ahsan aka Chunno Mamoo is still at large.
According to details, the accountability court heard a case about 'China Cutting' in which the accused are said to have sold 13 plots measuring 300 square yards each for petty amount as 'China Cutting' in Gulistan-e-Johar in 1998. 'China Cutting' is a typical term used widely for illegal occupation of public and private land and its onward sale as residential and commercial plots of different measurements. The accused have thus caused a huge loss of 500 million rupees to the exchequer. On this, the accountability court formally indicted all 21 accused, including 17 officers of Karachi Development Authority and the kingpin of the China Cutting menace, Chunno Mamoo, who is at large and the accountability court has ordered the law enforcement agencies to arrest him and produce him in the court. The AC has also ordered for recovery of the money they had minted through sale of plots in China Cutting.
