Southern Punjab: MCCI seeks 'Special Economic Zone' status

13 Jun, 2016

The Business Community of Multan has urged upon the federal Board of Investment (BoI), to grant Special Economic Zone (SEZ) status, to Multan, Rahimyar Khan, Bahawalpur, Muzaffargarh and Dera Ghazi Khan Industrial Estate under CPEC project. What a pity that BoI has declared Special Economic Zone status of only three industrial estates in upper Punjab, while South Punjab was totally ignored.
President, Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI), Fareed Mughis Sheikh said, that Multan Industrial Estate (MIE) enjoyed a strategic location on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and upgrading its status as a SEZ will help in promoting exports from this region to Afghanistan, China and Central Asian countries.
He said that Multan SEZ's would attract more investments and boost further industrialisation in the region. He said, the industries operating in phase-II of Industrial Estate Multan have an immediate access to high-quality infrastructure, public facilities and support services along with simpler business and establishment rules and an expeditious administration.
President MCCI said, on availing Special Economic Zone status, Multan Industrial Estate would definitely create multiple employment opportunities, attract more investments and encourage set-up of new industrial and manufacturing units in the region.
