The National Accountability Bureau has been told to stop taking illegal action against a former Prime Minister who has been accused in an inquiry into alleged bogus recruitments in two power companies. The investigation has implicated Raja Pervez Ashraf, the 19th prime minister from 2012 until completing his designated term in 2013, in a recruitment scandal at the Pakistan Electric Power and Gujranwala Electric Power Supply companies.
The Lahore High Court has served the bureau with a notice and called for its response in three weeks following the former prime minister's petition which has objected to repeated summons by the bureau. On Wednesday, his counsel told the court that his client had appealed to the bureau about the summons notices and accused the governing party of using the bureau against his client.
