"The present rulers will die at their own hands and I can foresee their souls taking flight and the fear of death has already overtaken their minds," said Tahirul Qadri, the Chairman of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek, who arrived at the Lahore Airport from London on Tuesday. His remarks came in his address to the media at the airport where he was showered with flowers by hundreds of party leaders and activists. He also told the reporters about a special announcement he would make during a scheduled demonstration plus a sit-down his party has planned for June 17 on The Mall.
He then castigated the Sharif brothers, saying, "Their cronies were responsible for the Model Town tragedy where in broad daylight massacring 14 innocent party workers and leaving 100 of them injured. All this was a one-sided affair and the Punjab government's forces alone fired at unarmed innocent and peaceful workers. "If justice is not provided to the innocent and criminals are not given punishment, the Parliament should frame a new law under which powers must be given to the state of killing and torturing any person without reason and questioning. We have no enmity with the police, but it was the Punjab police which are playing in the hands of the rulers and carrying out their orders." He promised of a peaceful demonstration on June 17 with all political parties having confirmed their participation.
