ATC extends remand of two suspects

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Thursday extended the physical remand of two suspects to police on the charges of attacking a police party with intention to kill and possess illicit weapons and explosive material. The police produced Abdul Basit and Muhammad Nauman before the administrative judge of ATC to get extension in suspects' remand.
The investigation officer informed the court that the suspects were arrested after an encounter within the limits of Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station. The law enforcers also claimed to have recovered pistols without license and explosives substance that include hand grenade and ball bomb from the possession of accused. The IO requested the court to extend their remand in police's custody as they were further required for interrogation. While accepting IO's request the judge extended suspects' physical remand till 25th June. According to police, they were on routine patrolling on 10th June 2016 when they intercepted bikers for checking, who instead opened firing on them in a bid to escape. The personnel retaliated and arrested both the suspects after an exchange of fire.
