Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Liaqat Baloch has welcomed the reopening of the Torkham border after talks between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Addressing an Iftar party in the city, he said that the issue of the Afghan refugees was a humanitarian issue and the people of Pakistan had been making sacrifices for their Afghan brethren during the last thirty five years. He said that initially, the Soviet Union had invaded Afghanistan and now the US and Nato forces were occupying the country unlawfully. He said that peace was inevitable for Afghanistan.
He said that as long US and Nato forces remained in Afghanistan, lawlessness and terrorism could not end in the region.
Liaqat Baloch said that national unity and harmony were highly important in the prevailing situation. He said that corruption and the corrupt elements in the government and the opposition were the root cause of all trouble.
He said in the given situation, a heavy responsibility devolved on the shoulders of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and he should not wait for the agreement between the government and the opposition on the ToRs. The Chief Justice should set up a judicial commission and the commission itself should finalise the ToRs in the light of the ToRs proposed by the government, the opposition and the Supreme Court Bar. With that, the commission should decide the road map for the indiscriminate and ruthless accountability.
