Formation of new ECP: PML-Q seeks consensus of parliamentary parties

20 Jun, 2016

PML-Q senior central leader Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has demanded that views of all parliamentary parties and the people should be included in the formation of the Election Commission of Pakistan.
It may be added that all four members of Election Commission from the four provinces have retired after completing their five-year term and the Speaker National Assembly has notified the parliamentary committee for the appointment of Election Commission's members in which PML-Q, JI and AMJL has no representation.
Elahi demanded that "before nomination of the members their names should be publicised and the parliamentary committee should have representation of all parliamentary parties".
Talking to media along with Senator Kamil Ali Agha, MNA Tariq Bashir Cheema and Muhammad Basharat, here on Sunday Elahi said if the people concerned have to be consulted before name of a street is changed then how the voters can be ignored in the formation of the Election Commission, Mistake of 2013 should not be repeated, he added.
"The Opposition leader (Khursheed Shah) should take all opposition parties along because if first brick is placed improperly then straight building cannot be raised, objections will continue to be raised on election held under the manoeuvred Election Commission like in the past" he warned.
"We had objected ahead of last general election to making own favourites in the four provinces as members of the Election Commission through which desired results were secured", he added.
"Elahi alleged that those members continuously kept by-passing the Chief Election Commissioner, if this is done again this time then next election will also be rigged election"
"We warn opposition leader Khursheed Shah not to repeat mistake of 2013, names of proposed members should firstly be placed before the media and the people so that nobody raises finger on their "Amanat, Dianat Aur Sadaqat", PML-Q leader emphasised.
