Sindh High Court on Monday issued a warrant for the arrest of Project Director Lyari Expressway Re-settlement as he failed to appear before the SHC in the affectees compensation case. The SHC bench, headed by Justice Nadeem Akhter, was hearing the plea filed by Gul Jan, a resident of Lyari who vacated his house for completion of the Lyari Expressway, but he was not given compensation amount and alternative place.
The director was instructed to appear before the Court along with relevant documents and apprise the Court about efforts taken for the compensation of the affectees in Monday's hearing, but he remained absent. The SHC expressed displeasure on it and issued his bail-able arrest warrant of Rs 100,000 which was served through SSP. Earlier, the petitioner submitted that he vacated his house in Lyari, on the assurance that he would be compensated for evacuating the land. He said the compensatory amount was not being paid by the authorities.
"The court had also ordered the authorities concerned to compensate the affectees who gave up their houses for the sake of the project and provide them an alternative place but the court's order has not been complied with so far," the petitioner stated. He requested the SHC to direct the authorities concerned to compensate him for his land.
