PMLQ demands representation in parliamentary body

27 Jun, 2016

PML-Q's senior leader Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has proposed to the Opposition Leader Khurshid Shah to ensure representation of Jamaat-e-Islami, Awami Muslim League and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-e-Azam in the parliamentary committee formed for the selection of four members of Election Commission of Pakistan.
Speaking to his party workers in Gujrat on Sunday, Me. Elahi warned that the ruling PML-N wanted to repeat history of rigging by getting Election Commission of its choice.
"To block the way of rigging in the Election, it is essential that impartial, honest and pro-justice members are unanimously selected keeping views of the voters, media and civil society in mind otherwise it will be impossible to stop organised-rigging in the Elections as did in the past," he claimed.
Parvez Elahi said that forming of a transparent and fair Election Commission was necessary for transparent, fair and impartial Elections and for this, the Parliamentary Committee should also be reconstituted so that parliamentary parties not represented as yet should get representation in it and in this process all parties should be involved without any discrimination. "Election Commission formed on the opinion of the Parliamentary Committee without full representation of the Opposition will remain controversial," he said adding that in the past the ruling and some other parties manoeuvred to form Election Commission of their favourite members to manipulate the election results but this time this should not happen. He stressed that it is essential that all small parties should evolve unanimous line of action in this matter so that the tradition of expressing no trust in every election in the past must end now.
"It is dire need of the hours to form an Election Commission irrespective of party affiliations that will help foil the attempts of the rigging because patriotic people of the country never make wrong decision but their majority opinion is turned into minority through organised rigging in the Elections," he argued. Chaudhry Parvez Elahi claimed that intense planning was being made for pre-poll manipulations by inducting favourite members to the ECP who remain obedient to the rigging masters as had happened in the last Elections when results were manipulated in every province through the favourite Election Commission bypassing the Chief Election Commissioner.
