Sindh Minister for Local Government, Jam Khan Shoro has said that present water supply to city is only 50 percent of the required. "The city needs 1050MGD and the supply is 500MGD," he said this while addressing the members of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI). He said that 20-25 percent water being wasted around the world. He informed the members that Kenjhar Lake, which is the major source of water for the city was 145 kilometer away from Karachi.
He said that the authorities are taking care of cleaning 520 canals/waterways falling into the sea. The minister said that the government was working on water treatment of 189MGD, which will be used for industrial areas. He informed that influential had established illegal hydrants. The provincial government took action against those people which resulted that now 11 hydrants are in the city against 72. The minister said that two letters of intent had been issued to a Chinese company for disposing off solid waste.
Acting President FPCCI, Hanif Gohar said that if MD Water Board allowed then Rangers can eliminate water mafia from Karachi. He said that the members of Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD) were not in favour of illegal things but they want authorities should judiciously work.He pointed out the long holidays during Eid-ul-Fitr and said it would create problems for trade and industry.
FPCCI vice presidents Arshad Farooq, Zulfiqar Ali Shaikh were also, Abdul Haseeb Khan, Mumtaz Ali Shaikh, Gulzar Feroz, Mehtabudin Chawla, Waseem Vohra, Dr Ikhtiar Baig, Patron in chief ABAD Mohsin Shekhani, Abdul Sami Khan, Atiq Mir, Former Vice president ABAD Muhammad Hanif Memon, Muhammad Sohail Warind, Mahin Khan, Tajwar baig and Farzana Khan were also present at the meeting.
