Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly (NA) Syed Khurshid Shah stated on Friday that being a public servant, Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Chairman Zafar Mahmood should refrain from issuing statements over the Kalabagh Dam issue.
Shah said that three provincial assemblies of the country passed resolutions against the construction of the Kalabagah Dam, adding that a public servant should not issue statements over the matter after the passing of these resolutions. Opposition leader said Kalabagh Dam issue was beyond the mandate of Wapda Chairman, further stating that power shortage issue could be solved through the construction of small dams, including the Bhasha Dam.
He said the government was trying to divert attention from the power crisis in the country by resurrecting the Kalabagh Dam issue. Shah stated that Wapda Chairman's statements were against the spirit of federalism, adding Zafar Mahmood should first become aware of the basics of federalism before issuing such statements.
