The Karachi Port handled 130,977 tonnes of cargo comprising 111,192 tonnes of import cargo and 19,785 tonnes of export cargo including 3,850 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 111,192 tonnes comprised of 29,811 tonnes of containerised cargo; 11,683 tonnes of general cargo; 23,987 tonnes of total bulk cargo: 13,000 tonnes of coal; 2,650 tonnes of rock phosphate; 3,705 tonnes of soyabean meal; 4,195 tonnes of canola; 437 tonnes of palm kernel expeller and 45,711 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 19,785 tonnes comprised of 15,785 tonnes of containerised cargo; 50 tonnes of general cargo and 3,950 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 3,850 containers comprising of 2,210 containers import and 1,640 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 488 of 20's and 855 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 6 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 169 of 20's and 485 of 40's loaded containers while 151 of 20's and 175 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were six ships namely Kota Kamil, Hyundai Brave, Taroko, Batam Trader, Selay-S and Lion M carrying containers and oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were eight vessels viz. MOL Endowment, HS Marco Polo, Uni Prudent, Wan Hai-503, Chemtrans-1, Torm Hardrada, Aurora Bulker and Navios Armonia carrying containers, oil tanker, fertiliser and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
There was one ship namely Uni Prudent carrying containers sailed out to sea on Friday while three ships namely MT Lahore, Torm Hardrada and Aruna Ismail carrying oil tanker and coal respectively are expected to sail on Saturday. There were two vessels viz. Sabya and Chemroad Mega carrying containers and oil tanker respectively due to arrive on Friday while seven vessels viz. APL Germany, Sima Giselle, Oriental Marguerite, Fast, Spar Vega, Star Athena and Rickmers Antwerp carrying containers, chemical, coal, steel and railway bougies respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.
