This is apropos a Business Recorder news item "Banks to remain open on Saturdays" carried by the newspaper on Tuesday. This heartening to note that in order to facilitate the general public, State Bank of Pakistan has asked banks to keep open all branches on Saturday and Monday prior to Eid.
All banks branches are supposed to open only two days during the first ten days of July 2016 due to bank holidays and Eid-ul-Fitr holidays and routine Saturday/Sunday off. The culture of extended public holidays is not making any contributions towards country's economy. The country's economic output has deteriorated since the 2008 general elections and such extended holidays present a sardonic comments on our state of affairs. The culture of extended holidays must end without any further loss of time.
