Pulses import up 44.19 percent in July-May

The country's pulses import grew to $528.168 million in July-May 2015-16, up by 44.19 percent, official figures say. The total rise in the pulses import was $161.875 million in July-May 2015-16 as compared to the commodity's import of $366.293 million in July-May 2014-15, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics suggests. Import volume of pulses in July-May 2015-16 soared by 40.42 percent or 237, 145 metric tons to 823,801 metric tons from 586,656 metric tons in July-May 2014-15.
In May 2016, the country's import of pulses went down by three percent or $1.16 million to $43.113 million from $44.273 million in May 2015. In term of volume, pulses import went up just by 0.43 percent or 286 metric tons to 67,446 metric tons in May 2016 from 67,160 metric tons in May 2015.
