3,000 telephone lines dead in South Waziristan

Apart from unavailability of mobile phone service in Wana around 3,000 telephone lines have gone dead in South Waziristan Agency. Due to lack of communication means, residents of the area are facing problems in connecting with people in and out of the country, reported a private news channel.
Local people complained that telephone lines had become dead in Doab, Dabkoat, Ghwa Khwa, Azam, Warsak and Speen areas every year just before Eid.
Jamal, hailing from Wana said that a number of his relatives were working abroad particularly in Middle Eastern countries and it seemed difficult this time to reach out to them for Eid greetings due to the faulty lines.
Meanwhile, In-charge of Wana Telephone Exchange Umar Khan said that the 3,000 lines were damaged by recent heavy rains and windstorm in the area.
He said that repair work was underway and these lines would be fixed soon.
