Prices of essential kitchen items, especially vegetables have witnessed a decline during this past week as compared to preceding week, revealed a survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Saturday. The survey observed that the prices of most of the vegetables and chicken went up prior to Eid-ul-Fitr have witnessed a reduction.
Tomatoes price reduced from Rs 500 per 5 kg to Rs 350 per 5kg in wholesales market, ginger from Rs 100 to Rs 80 per kg, potatoes from Rs 180 to Rs 160 per 5 kg, garlic from Rs 180 per kg to Rs 160 per kg. The survey noted that a few days before the arrival of Eid chicken price in wholesale and retail markets were skyrocketed and now the prices are settling as per supply/demand situation.
According to traders, chicken is available at Rs 6,000 per 40 kg against Rs 7,000 per 40 kg which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 170 per kg against Rs 230 per kg, egg price is stable at Rs 75 per dozen in wholesales market and Rs 85 per dozen in retail. There was no change in the prices of mutton and beef as mutton is available at Rs 750 per kg. Boneless beef is being sold at Rs 480 per kg while beef with bones is being sold at Rs 380 per kg.
Karaila price went down by Rs 30 per 5 kg at wholesales market from Rs 200 per 5 kg Rs 170 per 5 kg, cucumber from Rs 200 per 5kg to Rs 160 per 5kg, potato from Rs 2,300 per 110 kg bag to Rs 2,100 per 110 kg bag and tinda from Rs 200 per 5kg to Rs 180 per 5kg which in retail market is being sold at Rs 45-50 per kg. Cauliflower price witnessed an increase of Rs 50 per 5 kg in the wholesale market from Rs 300 per 5kg to Rs 350 per 5kg and capsicum price witnessed no change as it is available at Rs 300 per 5 kg. In retail market cabbage is being sold at Rs 50 per kg, cauliflower at Rs 60 per kg, green chili price in wholesales market reduced by Rs 50 per 5 kg from 300 per 5 kg to Rs 250 per 5 kg which in retail market is being sold at Rs 70 per kg and maro kadu in wholesales market is being sold at Rs 150 per 5 kg while in retail it is being sold at Rs 40 per kg.
Onions price remained stable at Rs 130 per 5 kg in the wholesale market which in retail market is being sold at Rs 30-35 per kg, while good quality potatoes are being sold at Rs 45 per kg and normal at Rs 35 per kg and brinjal is available at Rs 40-50 per kg.
No change was registered in the price of rice, all range of pulses, wheat flour, soft drinks, ghee/cooking oil, spices, tea packs, milk and yogurt. Prices of most of the fruits during the week under review remained stable as Sindhri mangoes are being sold at Rs 105 per kg, Chaunsa at Rs 100 per kg, peach is being sold at Rs 120 per kg, watermelon at Rs 20 per kg, melon at Rs 40-100 per kg, normal quality local banana at Rs 100 per dozen and fine quality local banana at Rs 120 per dozen, while Indian banana is being sold in the range of Rs 150 per dozen to Rs 180 per dozen. Different qualities of apples are being sold in the range of Rs 60 per kg to Rs 250 per kg; Swat apricot is being sold at Rs 80-100 per kg, Quetta apricot at Rs 150 per kg and pear is available at Rs 150 per kg.
