Instagram’s CEO recently announced his decision to step down from the company, leaving many people in a state of shock.

Instagram CEO and co-founder Kevin Systrom announced yesterday via a blog post that him, along with another co-founder and CTO Mike Krieger have resigned from the Facebook-owned organization and will leave the company in coming weeks.

Giving the reason as to ‘taking some time off to explore our curiosity and creativity again’, Systrom wrote, “We’re planning on taking some time off to explore our curiosity and creativity again. Building new things requires that we step back, understand what inspires us and match that with what the world needs; that’s what we plan to do.”

As per Engadget, the news comes six years after Facebook closed its $1 billion purchase of Instagram that was initially founded in 2010. During the time of purchase, Instagram has 30 million users that has grown to more than 800 million until now.

“Mike and I are grateful for the last eight years at Instagram and six years with the Facebook team. We’ve grown from 13 people to over a thousand with offices around the world, all while building products used and loved by a community of over one billion. We’re now ready for our next chapter,” wrote Systrom.

“We remain excited for the future of Instagram and Facebook in the coming years as we transition from leaders to two users in a billion. We look forward to watching what these innovative and extraordinary companies do next,” he added.

Moreover, Facebook also tweeted a comment from CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Some time ago, Facebook-owned WhatsApp’s CEO and co-founders Brian Acton and Jan Koum too left the company and later tweeted #deleteFacebook.
